A 7-year-old boy was airlifted from a remote area of Utah County on Tuesday evening after he and three other children were involved in an ATV crash, authorities said.
The boy suffered a head injury and initially was having trouble breathing after the crash, which was reported just after 7:30 p.m., Utah County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.
The ATV, a “side-by-side” model, rolled for unknown reasons near Loafer Mountain, southeast of Payson. A medical helicopter from Payson responded.
The boy was in serious condition Wednesday at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, where his condition had been stabilized overnight, Cannon said.
No other children on the ATV were reported transported. Cannon said only one other youth was hurt, spraining an ankle and suffering minor cuts and scrapes.
