A man was shot multiple times on the sidewalk outside of a Layton apartment complex on Thursday afternoon.
A witness reported to the Layton police that the shooter left the area, near 1660 North Avalon Drive, in a dark SUV.
Police believe the suspect, 31-year-old Eddie Angelo Samora, knew the 32-year-old victim, an Ogden man who was in serious condition after the shooting.
Layton police Lt. Travis Lyman declined to release more details of their relationship.
“I‘m not sure how well they actually knew each other, but there is a connection between the two,” Lyman said. “We’re still trying to sort that out.”
Police believe the suspect lives in the apartment complex where the shooting happened at 12:40 p.m.
Samora is at-large, Lyman said, and is considered armed and dangerous. He is 5-foot-9, 220 pounds and has brown hair and black eyes, Lyman said.
A neighbor who aided the victim said he was struck by bullets in the ankles and the stomach area, 2News reported.
The victim was flown to the University of Utah Medical Center.
Meanwhile, investigators were working to determine whether a car chase on Thursday afternoon was related to the Layton shooting. Centerville police had tried to stop an SUV that matched the description given by a witness, and the driver sped away. The car chase ended with the SUV being abandoned at 300 North 900 West in Salt Lake City.
