Utah football moves up to No. 23 in AP Top 25, No. 21 in Coaches Poll after blowout win over San Jose State

The 3-0 Utes made the team’s first appearance of the season in the AP Top 25 at No. 23 and moved up three spots to No. 21 in the Amway Coaches Poll Sunday after trouncing San Jose State, 54-16. 

The top five of the AP Top 25 shifted, Alabama remaining on top, Clemson jumping Oklahoma for the second spot and Penn State and USC trading spots, the Trojans slipping to No. 5 after an overtime win over Texas. 

In the Coaches Poll, the top three remained unchanged with Alabama on top, followed by Clemson and Oklahoma. Penn State and USC are ranked at No. 4 and No. 5. 

Washington is the next highest ranked Pac-12 team at No. 6 in the Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the AP Top 25, while Washington State moved up to No. 18 in both polls after a big win over Oregon State. After Utah, Oregon rounded out the Pac-12 group in both polls at No. 24 after a 49-13 win over Wyoming Saturday. Stanford dropped out of both polls after a 20-17 loss to San Diego State. 

The Aztecs were among the biggest risers, jumping to No. 22 in the AP Top 25 and No. 25 in the Coaches Poll. Mississippi State gained the most ground moving up to No. 17 in the AP Top 25 and to No. 19 in the Coaches Poll after an upset win over LSU. The Tigers dropped significantly in response, falling 13 spots to No. 25 in the AP Top 25 and 12 spots from No. 11 to No. 23 in the Coaches Poll. 

Wisconsin, which beat BYU Saturday 40-6, moved up one spot in the AP TOp 15 to No. 9 and two spots in the Coaches Poll to No. 10
