Two shootings Saturday in West Valley City wounded a man in the stomach and a teenager in the torso.

Both victims are expected to survive.

West Valley City police Lt. Jeff Conger said the first shooting happened shortly after 5 a.m. in the 4400 South block of Christopherson Drive (about 3880 West).

Police didn’t find anything at the scene but later received a report that the victim was at Jordan Valley Medical Center West Valley Campus, Conger said.

Conger said the victim was “uncooperative” and did not say much to investigators before entering surgery. The victim is expected to survive, Conger said.

While police were still at the scene of the shooting, a car arrived and then drove away. Conger said officers stopped it and determined the pair inside were not suspects but may have driven the victim to the hospital.

Then about 3 p.m., police responded to a shooting at Parkway Park, 3405 W. Parkway Blvd., West Valley City police Lt. Amy Maurer said.

Maurer said a 14-year-old boy was playing basketball when a car pulled up. Words were exchanged, the lieutenant said, and someone exited the car and fired three or four gunshots, striking the boy in the torso.

A witness drove the teen to a hospital. Maurer said some witnesses described the suspect’s car as a silver sedan with a temporary registration in the rear windshield. The car was seen leaving the park driving north.

Anyone with information about the shootings can contact West Valley City police at 801-840-4000.
